Colleen McCarthy is
a 16-year-old student at a high-school. She needs money to go to a concert. The
scene takes place at home with her father.
“May I have $50 to
go to the Greatful Dead Concert, dad?” Cathleen asked.
“No way!” Her dad answered in a firm voice.
Cathleen looked
furious. “Why not?”she asked angrily.
“I mean that you
can’t go because $50 is a lot of money and I could use it for something like a
new battery,”he explained calmly.
“But everybody is
going!” Cathleen complained.
“Who is everybody?”
he enquired.
“Sophie, Charley,
Turtle and Big Mac, and Zonker and Rachel.”
“That’s not
everybody,” Mr Mc Carthy said, “That’s the short list of
people you hang out with at Roy Rogers.”
Colleen couldn’t
believe her ears. “I’ll die if I can’t go to the concert,” she
cried.
“People have died from
going to a rock concert, but no one ever died from not going,” her
Dad remarked.
